Sellers usually to fool the buyers to gain profit.Even after the passage of Consumer Act (COPRA) and after a few decades,it seems to make less impact in our daily lives.Sellers usually still get profits illegally.Suggest some ideas(other than the existing ones) where the interests of consumers are protected.
Many consumers are cheated because they are not aware of the rights and they neglect the issue if the amount of profit is small. We have to educate them about their rights and make them understand that 'drop by drop makes a mighty ocean' i.e. if the seller gets little amount of profit from each buyer, the total profit is more than what we expect.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, some of the sellers do it as there is no one to see what they are doing,so i think that we can set up CCTV cameras in/near the shops so that the buyers can be protected as they have an evidence
We as consumers first have to be well aware about the rights that we posses, even after the enactment of COPRA there is very little impact on the lower sections of the society. The poor constitute the major section of the society in our country and very little steps are taken to reach out to them . In my opinion strengthening of the foundation would enhance the outcomes in future thus we have to take necessary steps to reach out to the poor so that the movement is successful in gaining its momentum.
ReplyDeleteyes , I too agree that the poor constitute the major section of the society, but I strongly condemn the fact that the govt. is not taking steps to reach out the poor!
DeleteEach and every law is passed after rigorous discussion and the benefit of every section of the society is looked after specially the poor!!
But the current scenario doesn't say so? They do pass laws in favour of poor but the real problem here is that they aren't able to execute it properly. Thus you are partially right but not totally right.Good argument by the way!
DeleteThe same applies for Sravani's post. The Government is taking steps but are not able to reach them. But you are right for most of the part of this discussion.
DeleteThe Consumers should be made aware of the acts passed.Even people living in rural areas and remote sections should be made aware of the consumer rights. This way we can prevent being cheated. I agree with the Idea of CCTV cameras being set up . The police can also monitor the shops regularly and take feedback from customers.
ReplyDeleteAre talking something like consumer police.Hahaha!!! We already have consumer courts but we are already finding the need for a special police force for consumers.Nice suggestion, but it better if GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS can then themselves come to inspect their shops for malpractices.

ReplyDeletethe government can conduct awareness programs to make the people aware of their rights.the companies should print on their mrps clear on the products so that the consumers are not cheated.
ReplyDeleteBut that already exists and still many sellers are able to bypass this measure.

ReplyDeleteThe consumers must ensure on a cash memo(bill) If this practice is avoided the shopkeeper makes a profit in an illegal way. I too agree with the idea of using CCTV cameras & police monitoring.
ReplyDeleteI second your ideas.
DeleteIt is right to take bill and we should tell to the people who don't know about taking a bill. Even we all should take the bill when we are buying something in a shop if the shopkeeper doesn't we should ask for it.I also agree for CCTV camera .
ReplyDeleteBut still many sellers are able to bypass this measure.I agree that it's partially the fault of the consumers. But something must be done about it.

ReplyDeleteMost of the consumers are not aware of their rights, the reason being lack of awareness. Government should drive home the rights available to every customer including the illiterate people situated in every nook and corner of every remote village.
ReplyDeleteGovernment should make use of effective communication media that conveys the message in a manner comprehensible by simple minds.
I too agree to the idea of insisting on bills and checking of MRP.
And how exactly are we supposed to to communication facilities to do this.By the way, nice idea of yours.
DeleteI agree with other friends that people should know about their rights because this has made very big issue in our society. As a consumer we have cheated in many ways by the sellers for their benefits. If the consumer want to know about the product they should know about the MRP, information and quality of the product. The Government should demand the sellers to do not cheat the consumers. Otherwise the consumers has the right to file a case against the seller from the consumer forum.
ReplyDeleteHOW??!! That's the whole point of this discussion.Duh!!!!
Delete. Stringent actions should be taken against shopkeepers who violate COPRA. Every consumer should be aware about his/her rights and should fight for it . Consumers should be bold enough to complain if such practices are noticed. Before buying anything the consumer has to check all details like MRP, DATE OF MANUFACTURING, DATE OF EXPIRY and should never forget to his/her BILL.
ReplyDeleteSimple slogans are all that is needed to inform the consumers of the rights made available to them in consumer protection legislations.
ReplyDeleteChecking the expiry date should become a compulsory ritual prior to purchase of product.
I too go with the idea of MRP and the use of media to reach out to the people.
But what about those people who are not able to read? They are many people in the Villages who can't read other languages other than their native one and it's difficult to write slogans in every language, since India is a diverse country.
DeleteI suggest that people should ask bills for the product or services they buy.
ReplyDeleteFirst the consumer should be made aware of their rights for that there can be some awareness programmes through media that can help even rural people and posters on walls can make people aware of their rights.
ReplyDeleteI request everyone of you not to suggest the existing ideas. Please let the ideas be your own creations.
ReplyDeleteConsumers should not pay extra than the printed MRP, then they can buy essential commodities through public distribution system instead of paying more .For creating awareness we can take help from social media and severe actions should be taken against shopkeepers and traders who play with the health of the nation by indulging in adultration
ReplyDeletei think consumer have to take action on them by going to district court to get there money back
ReplyDeletei think consumer have to take action on them by going to district court to get there money back
ReplyDeleteas there is loop holes in every act or law passed by the govt.there is no strict surveillance on the shopkeepers.so there is cheating done by the shopkeepers.in my opinion the govt can have a track on the mrps of product and they can organise sudden rides to check on malpractises
ReplyDeleteAs consumers, they should be aware of the rights they have but most of them neglect it.
ReplyDeleteSo, they must be informed by publishing poster, banners or media about the rights they posses. :)
I think students like us should who have learnt about consumer rights should advise people tell them about consumer rights and make them aware.we should go from house to house and make the people aware
