Adulteration

these are some steps that can be taken to test adulteration of various kinds in food

An adulterant is a substance found within other substances (e.g., food, beverages, fuels), although not allowed for legal or other reasons. The addition of adulterants is called adulteration. An adulterant is distinct from, for example, permitted food additives. There can be a fine line between adulterant and additive; chicory may be added to coffee to reduce the cost.

—this is adulteration if not declared, but may be stated on the label. The term "contamination" is usually used for the inclusion of unwanted substances due to accident or negligence rather than intent.

Adulterants added to reduce the amount of expensive product in illicit drugs are called cutting agents. Deliberate addition of toxic adulterants to food or other products for human consumption is poisoning.

Some examples are as follows:

1.Apple jellies (jams), as substitutes for more expensive fruit jellies, with added colorant and sometimes even specks of wood that simulate raspberry or strawberry seeds.
2.Water, for diluting milk and alcoholic beverages.

3.Dried Papaya seeds are a common adulterant in Pepper.

4.Urea, melamine and other nonprotein nitrogen sources, added to protein products to inflate crude protein content measurements.

Have you as a consumer ever felt cheated due to adulteration (like) malpractices?

  8. On my opinion,
I don't know think adulteration is done in standard products. So always look for standard products and certified products. Look for the specific marks like the BSI marks or the FSSAI mark.

  10. In small tea stalls they use to sell some kinds of local biscuits for example butter biscuit .
Butter biscuit cost Re/s 1 or 2 only ,but the rate of butter is very expensive (in this case) instead of using butter they use "pig fat " it gives butter taste & it is very cheap (said by my father) .so that don't eat it
